Carlo Colla & Sons Company has a long and prestigious history, which starts as a private amusement for a bourgeois family living in the center of the city in the 19th century. The company encounters different changes and moves in various theaters but for several decades has a dedicated wonderful small theatre called Gerolamo in the earth of Milan. Their work enchants several generations of children and adults, proposing operas, plays, legends and ballets, all reviewed to suit the puppets world.
The Company has performed all over the world and her value and peculiarity is recognized both by the public and the critics. Performances aren’t addressed and thought for young public only: Carlo Colla’s shows are an incredible experience for adults and children.
Following the tradition created by Colla, still nowadays the artisans - puppet players make the puppets, the costumes and all theater elements themselves, in their atelier. They conceive, make, and play the puppets under the direction of Eugenio Monti Colla. This absolutely unique way of processing makes them completely independent and unique. The workshop and the stage are all in one. The puppet performance is only the end of a long and fascinating process requiring different skills.
In 2014 -15 Susanna Pozzoli photographs and films the workshop, the preparation and the stage setting for Turandot. The opera is performed at Piccolo Teatro Paolo Grassi in June 2015 as part of the official program of the city of Milan for EXPO.
